The 9 story high stairs leading from the cottage to the water were difficult so the owners (and their friends and neighbours) were looking forward to having this lift to make the trip easy.
This dramatic lift, which rises about seven stories from dock to cottage, replaced a rickety set of stairs. The upper station is about 15 feet off the ground. The track was set so that the car arrives perfectly positioned between two railing posts. The upper gate is interlocked so it won’t open unless the car is in the station. The car won’t move unless the gate is closed.
Prior to the installation of this lift the owners had never been to their lakefront. Now, a trip between the water and the cottage, about 170 feet of vertical rise, takes four peaceful minutes and offers a spectacular view of the forest, cliff, and lake.
