Lift 15: An Island Lift, From Dock to Cottage deck

Model: 4-Person
Track: 52' at 57°
Area: Lake Muskoka
Year: 2008

During the past 10 years we have made many changes to our cottage (an ongoing labour of love) and one of the best things we have done is install the lift. It makes life on the island so much easier. We are pleased with all aspects of our lift and commend you on an entirely excellent job. The only mistake we made was not putting the lift in years ago.

This spectacular lift runs at a steep 57-degree angle. The owner's needed it to continue living on their island property as all necessities had to be carried up a steep path and a steep set of stairs.

The owner called me in the spring of 2009 to thank us, he had arrived on the dock, loaded essentials that would have taken 5 or 6 trips to haul up the stairs onto the lift, pressed the UP button, and bypassed all that effort.

Even though the lift is at the water's edge it's hard to see from the water.

The car floor hovers 8" over the dock when stopped in the lower station.

In 2009 new owners added this deck to the boathouse roof and we upgraded the lift to run off a PLC module, to have 3-stations, and to be powered by a 3-hp variable speed motor.

The view from the cottage deck is spectacular. The owner's used to sit in the car for their evening "sundowner" as it was in the sunshine and the best seat in the house.

The car floor is about 15 feet off the ground. The gate is interlocked with the lift, it only unlocks when the car is in the station and the car can’t move unless the gate is closed and latched.

The first 20’ of track took 3 full days to assemble, lift, position, set the legs and hard weld it into place. The next 30’ took a day to build.
