This lift runs from the parking area to the cottage. An existing woodshed at the cottage end made for a very tight lower landing so we dug the track into the ground. This left no room for the motor and drive unit underneath the track so we positioned it at the top. Local topography required that the car be entered from one side at the top and the other at the bottom so we built a car with two open sides.
The overall effect is that the lift is seamlessly integrated into the landscaping and the lift gives a great view of the terraced garden. We used wire mesh and embedded wooden "steps" under the track to minimize erosion and even planted some periwinkle to stabilize the slope.
The owner loves the result and the lift has made it easy to move people, luggage, and supplies to and from the cottage. In her words, "I never cease to marvel at how the lift has improved my life at the cottage"

There was very little room for the car in the lower station so we set the track into the ground. |
The lift is not only well integrated into the garden, it actually opens a new area for cultivating and enjoying a new terraced garden. |
The car is shoe-horned into the landing area, it fits perfectly but left us with with almost no margin for error in setting the track. |
