These cottagers had a beach that was always cluttered with weeds and debris, the prevailing breeze kept piling it up. Keeping it clean was a full-time chore on the weekends so they had a beach their young children couldn't use. The biggest obstacle to removing the seaweed was getting it up the stairs, a rise of over 20'. From there it could be hauled in a lawn trailer to their compost heap.

We devised this lift to ease the beach to lawn trailer problem. It has a wheelbarrow-type bucket which they fill at the bottom. When the bucket is full one UP command sends the car 90% of the way up the track where it stops. A second UP command sends the car up the last 10% and tips the contents into the waiting garden trailer. A single DOWN command sends it all the way back to the bottom. The lift is controlled by a handheld remote transmitter which is used to turn the lift on and off and send the bucket up and down. The lift turns itself off after 15 minutes of inactivity.

It took about a month to go from the initial site visit to carrying the first load. Designing and building this lift with it's unique operating requirements was possible because we use PLCs to control the motor based on the operator instructions and the proximity switch information. We used a low cost, readily available 110 V hoist that plugs into a standard 110 V GFI protected outlet.

The best part - the children can enjoy their beach without their parents spending all weekend schlepping weeds up the hill!!!
