The owners of this new island cottage needed a way to get luggage and supplies the 3 vertical floors from the dock to the house. This lift carries up to 400 lbs directly from the dock to a porch accessed from the kitchen.
We designed it to have a minimum visual impact from both the house and the water by making the track narrower than our normal light track so it fit on the stone wall without extending into the picture windows. We were also constrained to keep it parallel to the edge of the deck to minimize changes required to the deck. In fact, the deck and the gate were already in place when we arrived to install the lift.

Another view before the installation. The track has to fit on the sliver of rock wall. |
Looking down the track under construction. The track is primed where we've welded the legs and motor mounts to the track. The motor is visible. We trimmed the bottom end of the track so that it would rest on top of the as yet unbuilt dock. |
The perfectly positioned car in the top station. The top rail of the car is level with the top of the deck rail and the floor of the car is centered on the gate opening. To achieve this the track has to be perfectly positioned. |
