About Us

crew 2011

From left to right, Dennis, Matthew, John, Scotty and Chris.

Inclined Elevation Inc. is a cohesive team of experienced lift building craftsmen who are dedicated to building the smartest, safest, cleanest and best Inclined Elevators they possibly can.

Our lifts are the result of John Weinstein and many others continually perfecting a core design that had been used to build hundreds of inclined elevators in Ontario since 1996.

John began evolving lift design and construction practices from day one in 2003 while building lifts with The Canadian Hillside Elevator Corporation. In 2004 John and a partner bought that company they formed Canadian Hillside Lift. John ran the manufacturing and construction side of the business as well as doing the purchasing and product development. In 2005 he left Canadian Hillside Lift and, in 2006, founded Inclined Elevation.

His goals now are the same as they were then: build strong, safe, simple, durable, smooth, low visual impact lifts that combine state of the art engineering with industrial strength construction and a natural, understated cottage look.

John brings a wide range of experience to the lift building business, experience that includes apprentice aircraft mechanic, Physics Professor, Researcher, and Teacher, boat builder, automobile re-builder, construction site supervisor, factory machine shop supervisor, machinist, production machine designer/builder, and industrial consultant. He is a craftsman with an understanding of both the theoretical and the practical.

Chris Stephenson started with us in 2009 and now runs the manufacturing operation at our Bracebridge shop. He and Dennis Anderson build the tracks, cars, chassis, and the other lift components we manufacture. Chris has nearly 20 years experience with all type of welding while working in building construction as a structural steel welder, production MIG welding in the automotive industry, pressure vessel pipe welding including gas pipelines, burner unit manufacturing, and much more.

Matthew Haley and Scotty MacDougall are the core of the lift building team, although John is on-site for the first few and last few days of the installation. Matthew, who began building lifts in 2008, has a B.Sc. in Physics, a solid knowledge of the physics and engineering of inclined elevators, as well as landscaping and construction experience and a dream of one day building roller coasters. Scotty also started with us in 2008 and is an award winning welder. He is a certified tool and die maker, a certified power motor specialist, and an industrial millwright for 15 years.

Tom Townsend, who was out of town for the photo, adds the wood to the cars and builds the wooden panels used to protect the motor and other machinery.

The signature of the team is the pride we take in our work, we love what we do and we build every lift as though it were for our own families. Our names, literally and figuratively, go on every lift.

All our customers love their lifts too.
